Ma rencontre avec le matcha

J’ai découvert le matcha pour la première fois lorsque que je suis allé en voyage au Japon en 2015. Puisque c’était un produit propre à ce pays, je me rappelle que je prenais tout ce qui était fait de matcha comme des mochi, du matcha latte, de la crème glacée, des KitKat et de la pâtisserie. Tout était délicieux et sucré! J’ai aussi eu l’opportunité d’assister à une cérémonie de thé privée à Uji (Kyoto) et j’ai pu goûter au matcha de grade cérémonial. Bien que le goût était fort et amer, j’ai accepté de boire un deuxième bol, car je voulais vivre cette expérience au maximum. Heureusement, il y avait aussi une petite sucrerie pour accompagner le goût du thé. La cérémonie de thé fût une expérience que je n’oublierai jamais! C’était très jolie à regarder. Lors d’une cérémonie, les mouvements réalisés par l’hôte et par les invités sont codifiés. D’ailleurs, tout le monde dans la salle était assis en position seiza ce qui équivaut à être assis à genoux. Puisque c’était quelque chose que nous n’avions jamais pratiqué, c’était une position pénible et difficile à tenir, mais nous avons finis par en rire avec notre hôtesse et son apprenti puisqu’elles comprenaient notre inconfort. Notre hôtesse Madame Matsui nous avait dit que l’apprentissage pour devenir un hôte d’une cérémonie de thé se faisait de bouche à oreille!  Enfin, un fait intéressant est que la cérémonie de thé veut transmettre l’harmonie, le respect, la pureté et la tranquillité et je peux dire qu’en tant qu’invité, on avait ressenti cela.

Durant mon voyage, je suis tombée en amour avec le matcha et lorsque je revenue à Montréal, j’étais heureuse d’avoir trouvé la compagnie Thé Sakao. Celle-ci offre le matcha authentique et de qualité! De plus, elle organise aussi des cérémonies de thé. Alors si vous avez la chance d’y assister, je vous le recommande fortement. Le matcha occupe maintenant une grande place dans mon quotidien. À chaque fois que je bois le matcha de Thé Sakao, je me sens toujours transporté à mon voyage au Japon!

My encounter with matcha

I discovered matcha for the first time when I went to Japan in 2015. The fact that it was a product unique to this country led me to order everything that was made of matcha like mochi, matcha latte, ice cream, KitKat chocolate and pastry. Everything was delicious and sweet! I also had the opportunity to attend a private tea ceremony in Uji (Kyoto) and I got to taste ceremonial grade matcha. Although the taste of it was strong and bitter, I accepted to have a second bowl because I really wanted to enjoy this experience as much as I could. Fortunately, we all had a small sweet snack to go along with the flavor of the tea. The tea ceremony was an experience I’ll never forget! It was very pleasant to watch. During the ceremony, all movements performed by the host and the guests are codified. We were also seated in the position called seiza which for us could be the equivalent to be sitting on your knees. It was an unfamiliar position that we had never practiced before and so, it was very difficult and painful to maintain that position. The good thing is that we all ended up laughing about it with the host and her apprentice because they knew it wasn’t an easy posture. Our host Mrs. Matsui told us that all the learning process to become a tea ceremony host was passed down orally from the master to the apprentice. Plus, an interesting fact is that the tea ceremony aims to pass on harmony, respect, purity and tranquility and as a guest, we could feel it.

When I was in Japan, I fell in love with matcha and when I came back to Montreal, I was really happy to have found the company Sakao Tea. Today, matcha is something very important in my everyday life. And so, each time I drink matcha from Sakao Tea, it takes me back to the days I was in Japan!
